Clatteringshaws Visitors Centre sits on the A712, in the Galloway Forest Park, 12 miles north of Newton Stewart, 6 miles west of New Galloway. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty dominated by the Southern Uplands as well as some of richest forests in Scotland. The area is also renowned for stargazing and in 2009 it was the first area in the world to be dedicated as a dark sky park.


The village of New Galloway offers a connection north towards Ayr and Glasgow via the A713/A77. The larger town of Newton Stewart offers an easy connection towards Stranraer and the ferry connections towards Northern Ireland.
